Summer has come and, with it, a couple of weeks of hectic travel for your humble vicar. This week I will be in Florida at the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies, and next week my sister’s wedding in Dallas. This means that our little flock will not be gathering on Sunday the 13th or Sunday the 20th. I do hope this is not a cause of concern or anxiety to anyone; I assure you all will resume with gusto on the 27th.
Grace and peace,
Paul+

Sometimes the Lord speaks into the middle of our worship and challenges us with a word we had not come planning to hear. St. Paul prepares us for the sort of orderly (even though somewhat spontaneous) and edifying layering of liturgical, scriptural, and charismatic worship we experienced this Sunday in 1 Corinthians 14:26-33. Indeed, we this week we experienced “a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, an interpretation,” and we have been throughout the week, as Paul says we should be, edified by what the Lord has spoken to us. Now, this sort of worshipful and prophetic moment within a service can seem a bit messy and emotional at times for those unused to them. That’s why we rely on the discernment of the body of Christ to bear witness to what is said in the Lord’s name. My temptation after the fact is to clean up the audio for those who weren’t with us. But that wouldn’t be honest. If you listen to the “Full Service” file this week, you’ll hear (right in the middle of the sung worship) a bit of our heart toward the Lord and his challenge back to us. It’s messy, maybe even embarassing – not every Christian believes that 1 Corinthians 14:13 still applies - but very much the sort of thing we seek God for at Redeemer. Be blessed. – Paul+
Readings: Acts 16:9-15; Psalm 67; Revelation 21:10-22:5; St. John 14:23-29
We were blessed today in an intimate time of free worship and such a sense of God’s presence both in song and in sermon. There has been in us lately a feeling of real privilege that we get to gather to worship the Lord each week. Our desire to grow is in large part not just because we would benefit from the company, or even just that we believe folks need this (and they do), but because we want and need help in blessing the Lord in worship. These services, after all, are not for us but for him! Those of you who follow and listen to this site, pray for us that God will make us sensitive to his word and will concerning the Church of the Redeemer and 1) our hearts and lives before him and 2) our part in his work in Wilson. – Paul+
